the concept for Human Bondage is based on the Victorian diary, the album comes in a special designed metal-velvet case, hard on the outside, soft on the inside, including a zigzag folder containing eight poems; the text is printed on eight former daguerreotypes from which the portraits of the dead have been erased.

about

This album deals with separation and the consequential isolation. The need to connect with the dead, with what has left us and is gone, feels primeval and manifests through ancient traditions. It comes to us through dreams, desires and social connections.
The poems are haunted snippets of memory, fading as they occur, like daguerrotypes (photographs taken by an early photographic process employing an iodine-sensitized silvered plate and mercury vapor) used in the booklet's visuals.

In this second album we took the work method of the first album a little further by totally destroying the recorded improvisation of the Exit Trio and deconstructing all acoustic sounds into a newly organized electronic composition. All sounds you hear are made from the original recording of the improvisation. Our gratitude goes out to the musicians of the recorded improvisation who allowed us total freedom to do as we pleased with their music.

about

DarkEnsemble Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Conceptual artist and poet Blanka Pesja initiates experimental collaborations with musicians and sound designers.
We question the traditional power balance: the acoustic dominance over the electronic, the human voice over the soundscape etc.Our recordings should challenge the hierarchical perception that is rooted in our traditions and cultural values.
